Starbucks stepping up their game

Starbucks the corporate monster coffeehouse is jumping on the sustainable wagon. They've just opened a new concept cafe on the Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam. Their designers included more then 35 local craftmens and artists that have used reclaimed materials such as Delft tiles, bicycle inner tubes, and wooden gingerbread molds. They are trying to keep up with the local coffee shops catering to the more alternative and creative demographic. Word on the street is they are using social media to tweet relevant information like when their warm cookies are coming out of the inhouse bakery. Although whenever possible we prefer supporting independent businesses, if in the Rembrandtplein square, perhaps it's worth an espresso shot (for research purposes)

This new bar is located at 219 Union St at the foot of the new V6A building ( next to the Jimi Hendrix shrine) It's a welcome addition to the Strathcona-Chinatown neighborhood. It's menu is South East Asian inspired and for all you hockey fans you can watch the Canucks play while you eat & drink. The fourth restaurant addition opened by the owners of the Cascade Group ( Casacade Room, Lattitude and Habit) it's vibe is a little hipster meets trendy warehouse. Their cocktails have a twist and some are served in cool little jars. My favorites are the Tom Yum Collins and the Banga #3

I'm not sure what is more impressive about this modern home, the architecture or the location. Let's just say both. This 4000sq. ft home has a 180 degree view of the Pacific Ocean. In Florence Italy the architect Alessandro Capellaro transformed an old carpentry into a home. Using 300 wooden crates he found at a flea market the concept gives free rein to ones imagination. Creating unique pieces of furniture: bookcases, desk, shelves and kitchen plan.

Created by Polish designer Pani Jurek these chandeliers are not only functional but also engaging.This test tube chandelier allows each person to use it as they see fit. Some suggestions as seen photographed below are inserting different colors of dye to create some kind of color wheel or flowers, but the possibilities are endless. People collect all kinds of weird things and this could be a great way to display them.
